It’s raining…why did it stop!! Let’s go out and fight.

Some bikers think that when it starts to rain, the garage door should be used to keep the motorcycle until the sun shines again after the rainy season has passed. It is a pity that those people miss out on the best motorcycle riding experience.

Tip 1: Choose the right equipment

  • Generally, waterproof gear like gloves , shoes, and clothing means extra warmth, but if you need more, consider layering rather than a single layer of clothing. Layers can be easily removed as needed depending on the temperature.
  • Another part that should not be overlooked is the helmet, which can fog up. You should find an anti-fog solution to spray or apply on the front of the helmet to prevent the enjoyment of riding and to prevent loss of visibility.
  • No matter how well-prepared your gear is, make sure it doesn’t interfere with your riding. For example, you can’t use cold or wet hand controls, but a pair of warm, rain-resistant gloves may be too big and not much better. Likewise, a tight, water-resistant suit is great, but it can also restrict your movement, making it difficult to move around. It’s great to find gear that’s right for your riding, but you should strike a good balance between comfort and practicality for the weather conditions you plan to ride in. Ultimately, your riding in the rain, and your commute, should always be well-prepared.

Tip 2: Ride smoothly and smartly.

  • When riding in unpredictable weather conditions, you need to change the way you ride your motorcycle. Throttle control should be smooth and incremental; use a small lean angle; apply your brakes gradually and complete the braking action faster; at the end of the braking zone, you will not be forced to suddenly thrust the brake lever.

Tip 3: Beware of intersections

  • We all know about the oil on the road surface after it rains, but what about the oil that’s already there? Anywhere on the road where cars are stopped has a higher concentration of slippery material. Rain makes it worse. You may not be able to see this while driving, so it is best to slow down at intersections. Do not run yellow lights because if you have to turn or brake quickly, there is a chance that you will be in trouble with a crash.
  • Also, when stopped at a red light, check your side mirrors for vehicles that could roll towards you from behind. Likewise, double your distance from the vehicle behind you to increase safety on slippery road conditions.

Tip 4: Be careful with drain covers.

  • Drains are like black slippery ice when it rains. You should always keep an eye on the road while driving and check the route beforehand to see if there are any roads that you can easily go through to avoid any chance of an accident.

Tip 5: Find a dry line

  • You read that right. Dry riding is when the rain has just stopped. It’s amazing how many people we see riding in wet lanes even though the adjacent area is drier. Dry lanes already have better traction and maneuverability than wet lanes, so you need to make sure you’re constantly in the driest part of the lane.

And over time, as you practice these riding tips, you’ll find that riding in the rain (and even going on a road trip) can be a lot more fun, not to mention make you a better, more confident rider. Of course, every ride is different, with city riding in stormy weather often being the most infuriating. But just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you can’t ride most days. Plus, who wants to park their motorcycle for 4-5 months out of the year?
